What is Kakadu Plum and why is it so good for your skin?

You may have noticed that we use Kakadu plum extract in several of our products. It’s not just because it smells fantastic, Kakadu plum has some fantastic health benefits.

The Kakadu plum is a small fruit found in the Eucalypt open woodlands across Northern Australia. Traditionally, Kakadu plums were used to treat colds, the flu, and headaches. They were also utilised as an antiseptic or soothing balm for the limbs.

Here’s a few other benefits that you may not have been aware of.

Kakadu plums have the highest recorded natural amount of vitamin C of any food in the world. In fact, 100 grams of the fruit provide 30 times your daily needs. Vitamin C applied to the skin stimulates the growth of collagen to increase suppleness, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, plump the skin under the eye to reduce dark circles and improve skin elasticity, contributing to a more youthful glow. Who would have thought that a plum was loaded with this much Vitamin C!

Kakadu plums are a great source of antioxidants. They contain over 13 times more antioxidant activity than blueberries. One of the strongest antioxidants is a type of organic acid known as ellagic acid. Like all antioxidants, ellagic acid helps treat wrinkles and protect skin from sun damage.

Let’s get one thing straight – sunburn is never OK! But we understand that it does happen and when it does, Kakadu plum can be your best friend.

Kakadu plum has evolved to survive the unforgiving outback environment so it’s developed a natural resistance to the harsh effects of the sun that can be passed on to your skin.

It’s clear that Kakadu plum is a potent source of natural nutrients that work in synergy as a wonder serum for your skin. Have a look at our range of moisturisers and cleansers, made with locally sourced Kakadu plum you can find a product within our Hydrating, Soothing and Antioxidant range which feature this powerhouse ingredient.
